Survey and templating
A precise survey, measuring and templating the space, is the foundation of every successful installation.
Before any survey or templating can take place, the area should be fully finished: skirting boards, cornicing, socket backboxes and any other fixtures need to be in place, with no changes made afterwards. If you have light fittings or similar features, please have these on site so we can plan around them accurately.
If you are supplying your own measurements, please be aware that we cannot accept responsibility if the mirror panels do not fit. For this reason, we always recommend our specialist survey and installation service.
One important note: antique mirror, gilded glass and Verre Églomisé cannot be cut or adjusted without damaging the finish, so accurate measurements at the outset are essential.
Precision and tolerances
The industry standard for glass tolerances is +/- 2mm per panel. We work within 1mm.
For gridwork or multi-panel installations, we ensure all pieces align perfectly. If you are ordering supply-only, please provide drawings so we can guarantee this..

A survey for mirror or glass should generally be one of the last things to be scheduled on a project. It is essential that all finishing works are fully completed before we attend site, this includes plastering, painting, skirting boards, coving, and socket backboxes, all of which must be in their final position. Any changes made to the area after the survey has taken place may affect the measurements and could result in an additional visit, which would be chargeable.
If lights are to be incorporated into or around the glass, the cable points must be established in advance and the light fittings themselves must be on site at the time of the survey. This allows us to assess the most suitable positioning for any cutouts in the glass to accommodate them.
It depends on the nature and complexity of the installation. For larger projects such as fitting mirrors into an alcove with multiple panels a survey is almost always essential. No wall is ever perfectly square, and for a precise, seamless fit across several pieces, accurate on-site measurements are crucial.
For simpler installations, such as a single piece of mirror being fixed to a wall with sufficient surrounding space, it may well be possible to supply your own measurements and have the glass cut accordingly. That said, even in straightforward cases, you may still wish to consider professional installation to ensure the piece is fitted safely and correctly.
Lead times vary depending on several factors. The type of glass selected plays a significant role, certain specialist glasses have longer lead times due to limited availability, with many sourced from abroad. As a general guide, lead times typically range from 4 to 10 weeks from the point of order confirmation.
The complexity of the installation itself is also a consideration. A single straightforward panel will naturally come together more quickly than a scheme involving shaped pieces or an intricate multi-panel configuration, all of which require careful planning and additional time both in production and on site.
We will always provide a clear indication of the expected timeframe at the outset of your project.
